Grass of the month - September
Carrie Allen
Many of our forthcoming blogs will focus on a specific grass as part of our new ‘grass of the month’ series. This gives us the opportunity to tell you a little bit about the variety we have chosen, how it can add to your garden and what care it needs.
For September, we are featuring the miscanthus, a beautiful plant which becomes the star of the garden in late summer.
There are many varieties of this wonderful, versatile grass which promises to add height, colour and movement to any garden.
There is, quite literally, a miscanthus for every size of garden; at Meadowgate Nursery we have small, compact varieties all the way through to large growers which are ideal for screening – some varieties grow as tall as three metres.
Depending on the variety, the flowering period for the miscanthus runs from July through to the end of October, catching the low winter sun until they need cutting back in early spring. And the colours range from a stunning dark crimson to a warm honey gold – simply beautiful and with very little work for you.
If you are interested in purchasing one of the many varieties we have, please visit our on-line store where you can see photos. We hope to hear from you!
